Dr. Cédric Van Goethem

His PhD Thesis on
"Preparation and characterization of novel thin-film nanocomposite and asymmetric nanofiltration membranes"
completed in Bio-Science and Engineering at KU Leuven, Belgium, under the supervision of Prof. Ivo Vankelecom, achieving the best evaluation by the international jury in terms of in terms of breadth and depth of the study, scientific relevance including industrial impact, innovation, and dissemination of the results.

Cédric Van Goethem obtained his Bachelor and Masters' degree and his PhD in Bio-Science Engineering from KU Leuven, Belgium. Following completion of his PhD, for one year he held the position of Postdoctoral Researcher at KU Leuven. In November 2019, he obtained a postdoctoral fellowship from the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO). In May 2020, he temporarily paused his FWO-fellowship and joined the Laboratory for Advanced Separations of Prof. Kumar Varoon Agrawal at EPFL, Switzerland as a postdoctoral researcher.

The Award was presented on Wednesday, 22 September 2021, at the end of the Session Membranes I of the virtual ECCE13 & ECAB6 which is scheduled from 15:45 to 17:15.

Dr. Eng. Abaynesh Yihdego Gebreyohannes

Her PhD Thesis on
"Integrated membrane process for valorization of waste water"
completed at the University of Calabria, Italy, KU Leuven, Belgium and University of Paul Sabatier, Toulouse III, France, (Erasmus Mundus Doctorate in Membrane Engineering - EUDIME) achieving the best evaluation by the international jury in terms of in terms of breadth and depth of the study, scientific relevance including industrial impact, innovation, and dissemination of the results.

Abaynesh Yihdego Gebreyohannes obtained her BSc in Chemical Engineering from Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia, her Master in Environmental Sanitation from the University of Gent, Belgium, and her Erasmus Mundus Doctorate in Membrane Engineering (EUDIME) from the University of Calabria, Italy, KU Leuven, Belgium and University of Paul Sabatier, Toulouse III, France. Currently she holds a post-doctoral researcher position at KU Leuven, Belgium.

The Award was presented in Valencia, Spain, on 10 July 2018 during the Euromembrane 2018 Conference.

Dr. David A. Vermaas

His PhD Thesis on
"Energy generation from mixing salt water and fresh water:smart flow strategies for reverse electrodialysis"
completed at the University of Twente, NL, under the supervision of Prof. Dr.Ir. Kitty Nijmeijer, achieving the best evaluation by the international jury in terms of in terms of breadth and depth of the study, scientific relevance including industrial impact, innovation, and dissemination of the results.

David Vermaas obtained his BSc and MSc from the Wageningen University, the Netherlands, and his PhD in Membrane Technology from the University of Twente, the Netherlands, Currently he holds a post-doctoral position at the Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage group, at Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands.

The Award was presented in Aachen, Germany, on 10 September 2015 during the Euromembrane 2015 Conference.

Dr. Steffen BUEtehorn

His PhD Thesis on
"Experimental and Numerical Investigation of the Hydrodynamics of Microfiltration Processes Using a Multi-Scale Approach"
was completed at RWTH Aachen under the supervision of Professor Thomas Melin. The Federation commended Steffen Buetehorn's thesis for achieving the best evaluation by the jury in terms of breadth and depth of the study, scientific relevance, innovation and industrial impact and the number and quality of his publications.

Steffen Buetehorn obtained his Dipl.-Ing. degree in Mechanical Engineering, specialisation Energy Technology and Chemical Engineering, from Leibniz University, Hannover, Germany, and his PhD in Chemical Process Engineering from RWTH Aachen, Germany. Currently, he holds the position of Distillation Research Engineer in Process Research and Chemical Engineering at BASF SE, Ludwigshafen, Germany.

The Award was presented in London, UK, on 27 September 2012 during the Euromembrane 2012 Conference.

Dr.Eng. Adele Brunetti

Her PhD Thesis on
"Integrated membrane plant for pure hydrogen production for PEMFC"
completed at the University of Calabria, Rende, Italy under the supervision of Dr.-Ing. Guiseppe Barbieri and Professor Enrico Drioli, was selected by an international jury as the best thesis in terms of innovation, breadth and depth of the study, quality of publications, and epecially the know-how transfer to industrial applications.

The award was presented on the occasion of ECCE-7/CHISA 2010 held in Prague, Czech Republic from 28 August to 01 September 2010.
