This webpage details some useful information and links related to the Education in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering in France
In the French educational system, pupils first attend pre-school (age 3 to 5 years), followed by primary/elementary school (age 6 to 10 years) and then secondary schools (Collège+Lycée: 11 to 18 years) that prepare students for the Baccalaureate. Some secondary vocational education schools, combining school and workplace learning in certain cases, can also provide access to a professional Baccalaureate.
More information about all kinds of education in France can be found on the webpage of the French Ministry of Education (http://www.education.gouv.fr/pid8/le-systeme-educatif.html).
All possible studies in chemical engineering in France are now listed on a dedicated website, which also offers various tools to promote chemical engineering and aggregate educational resources in French (http://genie-des-procedes.fr/).
Before the Baccalaureate, Chemical and Biochemical Engineering can be studied in professional curricula:
- Professional Certificate (BP) for the food industry for example;
- Professional Baccalaureate (bac pro) for bio-industrial transformation, for instance.
After the Baccalaureate, Chemical and Biochemical Engineering can be studied at:
- Institutes of Technology (IUT) http://www.iut.fr/formations-et-diplomes/les-specialites/dut-genie-chimique-et-genie-des-procedes.html which prepare students for technical and professional supervisory functions in some sectors of production, applied research and services; a Senior Technician Certificate (BTS) can also be prepared in some high schools (https://www.sup.adc.education.fr/btslst/);
-
University (http://www.enseignementsup-recherche.gouv.fr/cid20269/liste-des-universites-francaises.html) for License (general or professional) and Master Levels;
-
Engineering Schools in Chemical Engineering (either directly after the Baccalaureate or after 2 years of special training classes: CPGE), where specific courses in chemical and biochemical engineering or courses in chemistry with some chemical engineering are provided (https://www.20ecolesdechimie.com/);
-
Lifelong training, either for graduate education (Afpa https://www.afpa.fr/ for qualification as an operator or technician; Cnam http://www.cnam.fr/ for higher studies) or short/complementary training courses.
