The Federation's activities are determined by the Executive Board (charity trustees), while three General Secretariats in Germany, France and the United Kingdom share the different administrative tasks.

EFCE President
Emeritus Professor Jarka Glassey
(terms of office: 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027)
Prof. Jarka Glassey, United Kingdom, succeeded Mr. Giorgio Veronesi, who held this position for four years (2015-2025).
At the General Assembly on 7 September 2025, she was elected as the first female EFCE President for a two-year term of office with effect from 1 January 2026.
Jarka Glassey is Emeritus Professor at the University of Newcastle, United Kingdom. From 2022 until her retirement in 2025, she was Director of Education at the School of Engineering, Newcastle University, with overall responsibility for quality of education delivery of all undergraduate and MSc degrees.
Her research career as a biochemical engineer focused on delivering high-quality research at the interface of academia and industrial impact. Her research outputs in the areas of bioprocess development, modelling, monitoring and control, Quality by design (QbD) and Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) have made significant contributions to R&D in the biopharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals and food & drink sectors both within and outside the UK. Furthermore, she made a significant contribution to the development of education in (bio)chemical engineering for example by participating in education committees and panels, and by chairing education sessions, both in Europe and worldwide.
EFCE-related activities include the position of Vice-President Technical of IChemE (2018-2021), UK delegate and secretary (2010-2016) of the EFCE Working Party on Education and UK delegate of the EFCE Working Party on Quality by Design.

EFCE Executive Vice-President
Eng. António Gonçalves da Silva
(terms of office: 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027)
António Gonçalves da Silva, Portgal, succeeds Prof. Jarka Glassey, who held this position for four years (2012-2025); he also holds the role of EFCE Treasurer.
António Gonçalves da Silva is a Chemical Engineer, Senior Member, and Specialist in Business Management, recognized by the Portuguese Engineers Association, which is appointed by the Portuguese authorities to regulate the Engineering profession
António is a Member of the Council for Admission and Qualification of the Portuguese Engineers Association (Ordem dos Engenheiros de Portugal, OEP), following chairmanship of the Chemical and Biological Engineering National Council (2019-2025) of the Ordem dos Engenheiros de Portugal.
His professional activities include both positions in academia and industry. He was guest professor at the Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa and obtained various engineer and director positions in companies in Portugal such as Quimigal, Colgate-Palmolive and BumbleB, focusing on industrial management systems development, implementation and audit, and professional training.
He is a member of the EFCE Executive Board since 2024 and was a member of the organising committee of ECCE15 & ECAB8 in Lisbon, Portugal in September 2025.

EFCE Scientific Vice-President
Professor Boelo Schuur
(term of office: 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2025 and 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027)
Prof. Boelo Schuur, The Netherlands, suceeded Prof. Michael (Mike) Considine, United Kingdom, on 1 January 2024. At the General Assembly on 7 September 2025 he was re-elected for a second two-year term from 1 January 2026.
Boelo Schuur is full professor Sustainable Separation Technology in the Sustainable Process Technology group at the University of Twente with a focus on affinity fluid separations. He teaches Industrial Chemistry and Processes (BSc), Advanced Molecular Separations (MSc), and Biorefinery (EngD & PhD).Boelo is Program Director at the Institute for Sustainable Process Technology (ISPT) in Amersfoort, The Netherlands, coordinating the research and innovation agenda of the Separations for Circularity cluster.
EFCE-related activities of Boelo include membership of the board of the Netherlands Process Technologists NPT from 2012-2018. He was NPT-representative at the EFCE from 2013-2022. Furthermore, Boelo has been member of the EFCE Working Party on Fluid Separations since 2017, serving as its secretary from 2018 to 2024.
