Excellence Award winner 2021

 

Dr. Christian Rieck

His PhD thesis on "Microscopic and macroscopic modeling of particle formation processes in spray fluidized beds”,

completed at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany, under the supervision of Professor Evangelos Tsostas, achieving the best evaluation results in terms of breadth and depth of the thesis, scientific impact, industrial relevance, innovation, and dissemination of the results.

Christian Rieck obtained his Bachelor and Masters' degree in ‘Verfahrenstechnik’ from the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and his PhD from the Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering at the same University. From 2013 to 2020 he held the position of Research Assistant and Thermal Process Engineering Chair at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. In Autumn 2020, he joined Glatt Engineering GmbH in Weimar, Germany.

The will be presented on Monday, 20 September 2021, 11:30 – 12:45 during the opening session of the ECCE13 satellite event "Future Directions in Product Design and Engineering". He is invited to give a scientific presentation following the virtual handover.

Dr. Andreas T. Güntner

His PhD thesis on
"Selective gas sensors from flames for breath analysis",

completed at ETH Zürich, Switzerland, under the supervision of Professor Sotiris E. Pratsinis, achieving the best evaluation results in terms of breadth and depth of the thesis, scientific impact, industrial relevance, innovation, and dissemination of the results.

Dr. Güntner obtained his Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and his PhD in Mechanical and Process Engineering from ETH Zürich, Switzerland. Since 2017 he hold the position of  Postdoctoral Fellow, Research Group Leader and Lecturer (since 2018), at the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering, ETH Zürich, Switzerland.
Furthermore, since 2018, he is Research Associate at the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Clinical Nutrition, University Hospital Zürich, Switzerland.
In 2017 he co-founded the Sentiras GmbH, Zürich, Switzerland.

The award was presented in Florence, Italy, on 19 September 2019 at the Closing Session of the 12th European Congress of Chemical Engineering & 5th European Congress of Applied Biotechnology - ECCE12 & ECAB5. Dr. Güntner gave a lecture on Monday, 16 September 2019.

Assistant Prof. Dr. Arab Belkadi

His PhD thesis on
"Experimental study of liquid-liquid fractionation in microchannels for the continuous production of emulsified biodiesel",
completed at the LTeN and GEPEA Laboratories, University of Nantes, France, under the supervision of Prof. Jérôme Belletire, Prof. Agnès Montillet and Assistant Prof. Dominique Tarle, achieving the best evaluation results in terms of breadth and depth of the thesis, innovation, dissemination of results, industrial relevance, and scientific impact of the work.

Prof. Belkadi obtained his Master's degree in energy and sustainable development from the École des Mines de Nantes, France, and the Université M'hamed Bougara, Algeria. Since December 2016, he holds the position of Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mouloud MAMMERI University, Tizi-Ouzou, Algeria.

The award will be presented in Barcelona, Spain, on 2 October 2017 at the Award Ceremony of the 10th World Congress of Chemical Engineering - WCCE10. Prof. Belkadi is invited to give a lecture on Tuesday morning, 3 October 2017 at the 6th European Symposium on Product Design and Engineering held as a joint event of WCCE10.

Dr. Miguel André Abreu Teixeira

His PhD thesis on
"Perfume performance and classification: perfumery quaternary-quinary diagram (PQ2D®) and perfumery radar",
completed at the Laboratory Separation and Reaction Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Porto, Portugal, under the supervision of Prof. Alírio Egídio Rodrigues achieving the best evaluation results in terms of breadth and depth of the thesis, innovation, dissemination of results, industrial relevance, and scientific impact of the work.

The award was presented in Nice, France, on 28 September 2015 at the 5th European Symposium on Product Design and Engineering held in conjunction with ECCE10+ECAB3+EPIC5.

Dr.-Ing Patrick Frohberg

His PhD thesis entitled
"Studies on the production and optimization of protein-based biopolymers",
completed at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Halle, Germany, under the supervision of Professor Joachim Ulrich, achieving the best evaluation by the jury in terms of breadth and depth of the thesis, innovation, dissemination of results, industrial relevance, and scientific impact of the work.

Dr.-Ing. Patrick Frohberg obtained his Master's degree in Industrial Engineering from the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. Currently, he holds the position of Managing Director and CEO of PolyNature GmbH, a spin-off of that university. The company develops innovative, non-toxic, biodegradable and compostable bio-based plastics made from proteins. Frohberg has been substantially involved in the research and development of these environmentally friendly products for application in various industries.

The award was presented on 28 September 2011 during the European Conference on Product Design and Engineering held in conjunction with ECCE8, in Berlin, Germany, on 28-29 September 2011.
