Dear members of EFCE,

Welcome to the April edition of the EFCE newsletter.  

We are taking some time in this issue to remember Sauro Pierucci, whose sudden passing in March 2024 filled the EFCE community with shock and sadness. Sauro was a stalwart of the Italian Association of Chemical Engineering, AIDIC, as well as the Computer Aided Process Engineering (CAPE) Working Party, and tireless in organising conferences for European chemical engineers. You will find a full obituary in this newsletter.

Elsewhere, we bring you updates about the winner of the 2024 Michael L Michelsen Award for thermodynamics. There are calls for nominations for the inaugural George Stephanopoulos Award in Process Systems Engineering, the CAPE WP Award for long term achievements, and the 2024 EFCE-EMS Joint Excellence Award in Membrane Engineering. Also don’t miss out on this year’s Summer School on Crystallization, coming to Stevenage, UK, in June, and a roundup of this year’s upcoming events.
