Prof. Sergiy Antonyuk is full professor and director of the Institute of Particle Technology at the Kaiserslautern University of Technology, Germany. He studied Process Equipment and Engineering at the Donetsk National Technical University in Ukraine. In 2004 he obtained his first PhD in ecological safety at the National Technical University "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" (Ukraine). In 2006 he received his second PhD in Process Engineering at the University of Magdeburg (Germany) and continued his research in contact and breakage mechanics during postdoctoral period in the group of Prof. Jürgen Tomas. In 2008 he moved to Hamburg University of Technology to work as Assistant Professor in the institute of Prof. Stefan Heinrich. Since 2014 he is full professor at the Kaiserslautern University of Technology. In 2017 Sergiy Antonyuk became an Honorary Doctor of the National Technical University of Ukraine, Pokrovsk.
His research covers contact mechanics and breakage dynamics of the particles and agglomerates, flow behavior of powders, filtration and separation processes in the gas and fluid, aerosol technology, surface functionalization, and simulation of multiphase flow using Discrete Element Method, Computational Fluid Dynamics and other numerical methods. Sergiy Antonyuk is the author of more than 100 papers published in international journals and books.

Prof. Diego Barletta is Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Salerno since March 2018. In the same University he was previously assistant professor from 2005 to 2018. Since 2020 he serves as the Chairman of the Working Party on Mechanics of Particulate Solids. Since 2018 he is member of the EFCE Energy Section.
His research interests include powder flow in storage and handling systems, the effect of process conditions on powder flow properties, the flowability of biomass particulate solids, selective laser sintering of powders, fluidization of cohesive powders and process systems design of plants for the production of renewable energy and green chemicals. He is author of more than 70 papers on refereed international journals and books on chemical engineering and particle technology and of more than 80 papers presented at international conferences.

Prof. Michael S A Bradley manages The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology and provides technical leadership in areas as diverse as hoppers and silos, pneumatic conveyors, caking and segregation, instrumentation and control. His research interests are: Bulk solids handling, with particular reference to pneumatic conveying, hopper and silos. Work performed whilst undertaking PhD at Thames Polytechnic was aimed at fulfilling an industrial requirement for improvement of design of pneumatic conveying systems, and this work has been developed to the point where the techniques developed are now in regular use for consulting projects. Pneumatic Conveyors: Design techniques and fundamental physical research. Hoppers and Silos: Design techniques for reliable flow. Caking of Bulk solids (i.e. undesirable lump formation). Fundamental physical research and prevention techniques. Attrition of Particles in Processing: techniques for prediction and prevention. Segregation of Particles (i.e. undesired de-blending): techniques for prediction and prevention. Abrasive Wear: techniques for prediction, and relationship to mechanical properties. Erosive Wear: techniques for prediction. He was the co-organiser of the Indian 'Bulk Solids Handling Conference' (IMechE, 2011 and 2014), and now is organizing the 9th International Conference for Conveying and Handling of Particulate Solids (CHoPS2017) that will be held in September 2017 in Greenwich (UK). He is also Chairman of the Solids Handling and Processing Association Ltd. (SHAPA). He has published well over 50 refereed journal papers relating to a wide range of bulk materials behaviour and use.

Dr. Songxiong Ding is Senior Scientist at Tel-Tek Academy. He developed his thesis in a period from 2000 and 2004, on investigations of flow and pressure in silos during filling and discharging in the presence of inserts. It describes the numerical and experimental efforts undertaken to investigate the effects of filling modes and inserts on the flow and pressure in silos. This thesis was carried out through a special arrangement between the University of Edinburgh (UOE), Scotland and the University College of Telemark (UCT), Norway. He has collaborated intensively with Prof. Gisle Enstad and Prof. Michael Rotter in silo research.

Dr. Pablo García-Triñanes got his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2010 on the agglomeration and size enlargement of carbonate powders at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain). During this period he was invited to visit the Université de Technologie de Compiègne (France) and the Technical Universität Braunschweig (Germany). He continued his academic progress with postdoctoral positions at his alma mater, Santiago de Compostela, and the University of Surrey (UK).
Dr García-Triñanes joined the University of Greenwich in September 2016 and currently holds a position as Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering chairing as Academic Portfolio Leader the Mechanical and Chemical Engineering divisions. Pablo conducts research on tensile strength of cohesive powders and he is a passionate advocate of fluidised beds as he is currently exploring the use of this technology in accelerated carbonation and the production of core-shell functionalised particles.
Pablo holds positions as visiting lecturer at the University of Surrey (UK), Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm (Germany) and UTwente (Netherlands).

Dr. Johannes Härtl received his Dipl.-Ing. degree in Civil Engineering from the Regensburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany, and his PhD from the University of Edinburgh, UK. Currently, he is working as a research engineer at BASF SE, Germany, on research projects concerning the treatment and storage of granular solids.
He is the winner of the EFCE Excellence Award in Mechnics of Particulate Solids 2010. His PhD thesis on "A study of granular solids in silos with and without an insert", completed at the University of Edinburgh, UK, in collaboration with POSTEC, Telemark University College, Norway, received the best evaluation results in terms of innovativeness, breadth and depth of the study, quality of publications, and the transfer of know-how to industrial applications.

Prof. Harald Kruggel-Emden is the head of the chair of Mechanical Process Engineering and Solids Processing of the Technical University Berlin (TUB), Germany. He studied Process Engineering and Energy Technology at the Ruhr University Bochum and received his PhD in 2007 in the field of discrete element modelling. In 2016 he became full professor of TUB, Germany. He is Director of the Institute of Process Engineering, Faculty III, TUB since 2017. He is an advisory board member of the German Working Party on Agglomeration and Bulk Solid Materials of VDI-ProcessNet. His main research interests are particle based simulation methods (discrete element modeling) and coupling with continuum approaches (FVM-CFD, LBM, SPH-CFD), fluidized bed technology, pneumatic conveying, classification, drying, granular heat transfer and sorting. He has published about 59 peer reviewed papers, 47 conference proceedings and has given more than 60 scientific presentations at conferences.

Dr. Eddie McGee has over 20 years of industrial experience in the technical review and engineering of working solutions for a large number of solids handling projects in chemical, pharmaceutical, nuclear, waste, food, confectionery and other industries. Currently Technical Director at Ajax Equipment, he is involved in the detailed specification, design and supply of bespoke mechanical solids handling equipment, generally screw feeders, conveyors, mixers and elevators as well as ancillary items such as hoppers, intermediate bulk containers and chutes. In 2005 he gained a PhD from Glasgow Caledonian University for his work on characterisation and flow behaviour in hoppers and screw feeders. In 2008 he was awarded the IMechE Bulk Materials Handling Award for Innovation. He is Chairman of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Bulk Materials Handling Committee and is an active participant in the European Federation of Chemical Engineering Working Party on Mechanics of Particulate Solids.

Prof. Don McGlinchey is the Head of the Centre for Industrial Bulk Solids Handling and Leader of the Design, Process and Manufacturing Research Group at Glasgow Caledonian University. He is a Chartered Physicist, with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Strathclyde and following a period in industry, completed his PhD on the subject of the effect of vibration on particulate materials supervised by Prof Andy Matchett. Don is the editor of two books on bulk solids handling. He has authored over 50 research articles in this area and has been a member of various conference organising and scientific committees. His current research interests include multiphase flow measurement and modelling.

Dr. Martin Morgeneyer works in the field of powder mechanics at Université de Technologie de Compiègne (UTC), France. He received his engineering degree in mechanics and his PhD in powder mechanics from the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany. Prior to joining UTC, Morgeneyer was working on polymer rheology at TIIP, Zaragoza, Spain, and then an engineer in powder mechanics at Lever Brothers Ltd. in Warrington, England. He became researcher on powder mechanics in the institute of Prof. Schwedes / Prof. Kwade and then head of the research group ‘powder mechanics’. In parallel he was responsible for the internationalization at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany, of which he became the managing director later on. From 2007 to 2011, Morgeneyer was vice-rector of International Relations at (UTC). In the framework of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering, he is member of the section Product Design and Engineering and elected member of the Working Party on Mechanics of Particulate Solids (WPMPS) of the Working Party Characterization of Particulate Systems (ChoPS). He is involved international research projects as work package leader and supervises PhD theses which focus on the particle and powder mechanics at particle-in-matrix, bulk and aerosol state.

Dr. Jan Nečas studied at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical University of Ostrava. He works as a senior researcher at VŠB - the Technical University of Ostrava, Laboratory of Bulk Materials, working before at the University of Greenwich. His research interest is on developing new devices in the field of the behaviour of particulate materials, starting to develop such devices for commercial applications early in the University. He has experience not only in transferring technology to industry and developing mechanisms in the field of particulate materials but also in characterizing mechanical - physical properties. Prof. Bernhard Peters is Professor of Thermo- and Fluid dynamics at the University of Luxembourg. He received his PhD in 1990 at the Technical University of Aachen (Germany). From 1990-1993 he was Post-doc and research assistant at the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of London (United Kingdom). From 1993-2011 he was group leader of thermal conversion section at the Research Centre Karlsruhe (Germany) and from 2011-2007 project leader and design engineer at AVL List GmbH, Graz (Austria). His current areas of research are: granular matter and transport, thermal decomposition of biomass, CFD including thermal conversion and heat/mass transfer in packed and moving beds of granular matter and object-oriented software development and high performance computing.

Dr. Andrea Santomaso is active in research and teaching at the University of Padova, Italy, where he directs the APTLab (Advanced Particle Technology Laboratory). His research activities cover particulate and multiphase systems and in particular are focused on: powder mixing/de-mixing problems, wet agglomeration processes in agitated vessels, powder mechanics and rheology (dense granular flows), flowability and wettability characterization, on-line characterization. Up to now he has published more than 90 scientific works including 37 peer reviewed papers. He joined the working party as elected member since 2012.


Schott

DINGENA SCHOTT

Dr.ir. Dingena Schott is associate professor at TU Delft on Material Equipment Interaction for Logistics. She obtained her PhD in 2004 from TU Delft on the homogenisation of bulk materials in mammoth silos. She is fascinated by the complex behaviour of granular materials and the interaction with equipment operating in a logistic context. In 2007 she started the DEMlab for granular material characterisation and (DEM) model validation at TU Delft. With her team she characterises, models, calibrates and validates granular materials for enabling simulation supported design for cargo handling equipment on an industrial scale. She works on developing calibration and modelling particle based systems in various design contexts in close cooperation with industry; including optimised terminal design for biomass materials, as well as an award winning new grab design.
She works together in national and international projects with several industrial partners including stevedores, equipment designers, end users and port authorities. Currently, she leads the design of a transport and logistic hub in the H2020 Space@Sea project.
She lectures in the BSc and MSc Mechanical Engineering and MSc Transport Infrastructure and Logistics on granular material characterisation, material equipment interaction and equipment design, modelling of granular systems. Furthermore she involves students in her research through assignments and MSc thesis work on equipment performance and design in a logistic context. Since 2015 she is appointed Chair of the Board of Studies Mechanical Engineering.

Prof. Dietmar Schulze is Professor of Mechanical Process Engineering at the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences in Wolfsburg/Germany since March 1996. He is an expert in the areas of powder characterization and handling. Dietmar Schulze holds seminars on powder technology and has published about 130 papers including a book named "Pulver und Schüttgüter" and its English equivalent "Powders and Bulk Solids". He received the Technology Transfer Award from the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce in 1994, and the Arnold-Eucken award from VDI in 1995.
Dietmar Schulze studied Mechanical Engineering with focus on Mechanical Process Engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig and graduated in 1985. From 1985 to 1991 he worked as scientific assistant of Prof. Jörg Schwedes at the Institute of Mechanical Process Engineering in Braunschweig. He finalized his thesis on silo stresses and discharge in 1991. After this, he and Prof. Jörg Schwedes founded the consultancy "Schwedes + Schulze Schüttguttechnik" focusing on powder characterization and silo design. In addition, in 1993 he founded the company "Dr. Dietmar Schulze Schüttgutmesstechnik" being active in developing and manufacturing ring shear testers for the measurement of flow properties of powders.

Prof. Irena Sielamowicz is researcher and academic teacher in structural mechanics, theory of plasticity, granular flows both in experiments, DEM simulations, and statistical analyses of flows. Granted with one-year scholarship for young professors from Suisse Government to EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland. Attended in 44 prestigious congresses and conferences, 106 papers in peer journals, 4 scientific chapters in monographs, 4 academic books. Professor title in 2012 in Institute of Fundamental Technological Research in Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw in co-operation with prof. Zenon Mróz and prof. Tomasz A. Kowalewski. In 2004 one of the first two researchers in the world who applied the new diagnostic technique of Digital Particle Image Velocimetry to measure granular flows in silo models. For this achievement in 2004 granted by the American company DuPont, in 2008 nominated by the European Federation of Chemical Engineers as Permanent Guest to the Working Party in Particulate Solids in Frankfurt am Mein, Germany. Reviewer in 8 peer international journals. Expert in the European Commission and in Polish public institutions. Expert in commercialization of research results and transfer of knowledge and innovations.
