Professor Richard Darton
(EFCE President)
(second term of office: 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2013)
A Fellow of Keble College, Professor Richard Darton is currently Professor of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, and co-director of the Oxford Geoengineering Programme.
Prominent in the international chemical engineering community, Richard Darton is a past president of IChemE (Institution of Chemical Engineers) and has spent periods as a visiting lecturer at the Mendeleev University and Kurnakov Institute in Moscow and also at the University of St. Petersburg. He has worked at the University of Sydney, Australia and at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. He is an Honorary Member of the Czech Chemical Society and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
His research areas include dynamic surface effects at gas/liquid interfaces and he chaired the EFCE Working Party on Fluid Separations from 2001-2007. He is also a leading thinker in the concept of sustainable development.
In 2011, Professor Darton received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in recognition of his service to the engineering community and to chemical engineering in particular. The OBE is awarded by Her Majesty the Queen to individuals for distinguished service and achievement in their field.
Professor Darton succeeds Professor Jiri Drahos, Czech Republic, who held this position for four years (2006-2009).
In September 2011, Richard Darton was re-elected for a second term of office (1 January 2012 to 31 December 2013).

Dr. Wridzer Bakker (Executive Vice-President)
(second term of office: 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2013)
Dr. Wridzer Bakker, The Netherlands, succeeds Professor John Garside, who held this position for four years (2006-2009); he also holds the role of EFCE Treasurer. In September 2011, he was re-elected for a second term of office (1 January 2012 to 31 December 2013).
Wridzer Bakker is recognised in the Dutch process industries as a forward thinking innovation practitioner. As per 1 November 2010, AkzoNobel has appointed him as Business Development Director in Industrial Chemicals following a successful leadership of the Dutch Separation Technologies Institute. In his new role Wridzer Bakker will primarily focus on the growing strategic importance of MTA, as the new generation anti-caking agents for the Salt business; it is AkzoNobel's ambition to grow the Salt business through this innovation.

Professor Rafiqul Gani (Scientific Vice-President)
(term of office: 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2013)
Prof. Rafiqul Gani, Denmark, was elected by the General Assembly in September 2011 to succeed Dr. Hermann Feise in the position of EFCE Scientific Vice-President from 1 January 2012 for a two-year term of office.
Rafiqul Gani graduated with BSc in chemical engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka, in 1975. From 1976-1980, he studied at Imperial College in London for his MSc in chemical engineering, DIC and PhD. Prof. Gani spent the period 1980-1985 as a senior researcher at the Planta Piloto de Ingeniería Quimica (PLAPIQUI), an Argentinian institute devoted to teaching, research and development of technology in chemical engineering, followed by a year as visiting researcher at the Department of Chemical Engineering at DTU. In 1986, he joined the same department as assistant professor, and in 2000 he was appointed a Professor in Systems Design.
Prof. Gani's research interests are focused on: Multiscale modelling for managing the complexity in process-product design; Sustainable process design and analysis, including process intensification; Computer aided product (molecule and formulation) design; Development of systematic computer aided methods & tools; Development of predictive models for estimation of properties of chemical systems.
Professor Gani has been a member of the EFCE Executive Board since 2005 and a member and past chairman (2001-2007) of the EFCE Working Party on CAPE. In 2010 he was awarded the prestigious Recent Innovative Contribution in CAPE Award of the Working Party.
